I stare up at the moon so round, so full just sitting there the amazement of it everything having to do with it being a light for travelers at night being the subject of many stories being imagined in many ways history was made upon its surface a single step made legendary textbooks changed forever people see the moon and think these things they see its beauty and they hear its stories but me? It is the end This school year done Things are packed All but one Furnace blowing Loud sounds from above Cars leaving Not a push, nor a shove An empty couch Empty rooms Nothing stirring Lights unused Blinds turned Windows locked Toilet creaking The faucet: drip, drops Closets empty Posters down All is silent None running around An empty couch Empty rooms Nothing stirring Lights unused This is the end The summer sings Until next fall We feared these things Farewells are said We shed our tears To leave each other Not to have near Because our empty couch Means an empty room In which nothing stirs And the lights are unused.
